How to make money online with writing
Writing is a way to make money online by taking a variety of jobs or writing yourself. I've always been a relatively i am a fast writer and like to put my thoughts on paper, so i have always preferred to write and not edit. I know many bloggers who split their time pretty evenly between writing and editing/proofreading.
Some ways to make money writing online take longer than others to get going. If you want to make money writing on a blog, it'll take longer to get traffic and ad revenue, but it's benefits in terms of your credit and the potential of your own website. Getting individual freelance jobs might be a little quicker, but you might be constantly looking for more work.

Blogging
Blogging is the first choice for many people who want to make money online, but it's probably one of the most one of the most difficult and disappointing ways to make it. I speak from personal experience and have worked with other bloggers for years. The sad fact is that the vast majority of blogs do not make any money at all or do not meet expectations. This is the main reason why most bloggers give up before they are even six months old.
Blogging is hard work, but it has its advantages. You have complete control over the material you publish and can do so with the click of a mouse. You do not have to watch your story languish on an editor's desk or see half of it censored. If you can stick with it for a while without earning much, a blog can be a great source of passive income (income you do not have to do much for). This is because the search ranking and community you build over time will help drive traffic to your blog, even if you do not write.
I have been managing my own blogs for a little over a year now and am starting to really make money from writing. I plan to start publishing a monthly income report in January, but I have had several months where I have earned over $1,000 from blogging.
There are quite a few ways to make money from your blog, but the three main ones are advertising, affiliate marketing and products or services.
Advertising
Advertising through Google Adwords or another account is probably one of the most popular ways to make money from writing online, and it's easy to set up. You place boxes in different areas of your blog to display ads and get paid every time someone clicks on the ad. To really make money this way, you need a good amount of visitors. Depending on your target audience, you will probably only get about a dollar per click. Only a tiny fraction of your visitors will click on an ad, maybe one percent or so. Based on these assumptions, you can estimate how much traffic you need to make money.
Example: You have 5,000 visitors a month and about 10,000 page views. For these page views, you might get 100 clicks (10,000 * 1%) and earn about $100 a month.
To reach 10,000 page views, most blogs take about a year. After a year of blogging, my two blogs come to just over 18,000 page views, with this blog having more views than the crowdfunding blog. Bear in mind that I write something on each blog two to three times a week and that it takes several hours to write each post. This means that I am working a part-time job on a weekly basis, where advertising brings in very little. There are times of the year when blog advertising pays off very well, especially during Black Friday and the Christmas shopping season.
Affiliate marketing
Affiliate marketing is another form of advertising to make money online, but with a direct contract between the blogger and the advertising company. Instead of getting paid when someone clicks on an ad, the blogger usually gets paid when someone clicks on an ad and then pays for a service or product on the advertiser's site. If your affiliate ads are closely related to the needs of your blog visitors, you can make more money with affiliate ads than with general advertising, but it is still a slow way to make money with writing.
If only one or two percent of your visitors click on an affiliate ad and only a tiny percentage actually sign up for the service or product, you'll be lucky to get a few monthly payments from affiliates. The advantage is that affiliate ads bring in much more money, between 50 and a few hundred dollars for each person who performs the requested action.
Sell your own products or services
One of the better ways to make money from blogging is to sell your own products or services. If you blog about a particular topic, you are probably an expert in that field and may be able to sell quality advice.
Depending on how much your time is worth or how much it costs to produce your product, you can earn much more selling through your blog than through advertising or affiliates. Consider the same example as above: you get the same click-through rate for your product, which gives you a profit of $25. With 100 customers, you could make a profit of $2,500 instead of the pittance that advertisers offer you.
Write for other bloggers
A slightly easier way to make money online is to write for other bloggers. Once a blog's traffic gets going, bloggers make really good money and may think about outsourcing some of the writing. Join a few blogging groups on Facebook and get to know some group members. Not only will you pick up ideas on how to make money from writing, but you'll also make some contacts with people who want to outsource their writing. I have seen writers charge up to $500 for an article, although most start at $100 or a little more. You need to be able to provide examples of your work, so put together a few examples before approaching other bloggers.
